Peabody backs new coal-to-gas project

Major US coal miner Peabody Energy has entered into a joint venture with GreatPoint Energy to pursue the development of coal-to-gas and coal-to-hydrogen projects in the US and elsewhere using GreatPoint's proprietary catalytic hydromethanation technology, known as Bluegas. The process, Peabody said, is more efficient and cost effective than conventional gasification.
