US REC schemes proliferate

Market-based Renewable Energy Credits are the incentive of choice for US states, and the number and type of these credits has proliferated in recent years. However, as a government-made market they are prone to regulatory interference and not immune to collapse. New innovations are being introduced to make RECs less volatile and more predictable to underpin US ventures into renewable energy sources.
