Poor relations between Thailand and Cambodia is hindering regional power sector integration, the development of oil and gas resources in disputed territories and broader economic cooperation in the ASEAN area. The conflict represents a threat to ASEAN itself, but one that may defy resolution until Thailand resolves its own deep-seated political divisions.
