Milestones on the road to independence

The goal of fossil fuel independence by 2050 is ambitious, as are the milestones on the way. The government aims for a reduction of 33% in fossil fuel use by 2020, compared with 2009, while the share of fossil fuel use in the electricity sector is expected to fall from 71% in 2009 to below 40% in 2020. RES are to supply more than 60% of electricity in 2020, compared with 29% in 2009. Renewable energy is expected to reach 33% of total energy consumption by 2020, compared with 19% in 2009.
