Rising demand increases Brazilian fuel imports

Brazil's rapidly expanding car fleet and a poor ethanol production season are boosting demand for imported ethanol, gasoline and the blending component naphtha as domestic supply fails to keep up. Since the start of the year, imports of gasoline and naphtha have surged. According to figures from the national petroleum agency, ANP, over the last decade Brazilian gasoline consumption has risen by 31% to 29.843 billion liters (22.5 million mt), while sales of fuel ethanol have trebled to 15.074 billion liters.
