Iraq evaluates crude export projects

Japanese and Iraqi officials have began assessing bids for the second phase of the expansion of Iraq's oil export terminals, although documents seen by Platts show that planned capacity has been revised downward by 450,000 b/d. Developing Iraq's export capacity is essential if gains in production from the country's prolific oil fields are to reach international markets. Why planned export capacity has been reduced is not clear as the oil ministry wants to raise crude oil production to over 13 million b/d in the next six years from 2.7 million b/d currently.
