EU residential electricity and gas prices rise sharply

Residential energy prices have been on a continuous upward trend since the beginning of 2010, according to consultant VaasaETT's European Residential Energy Prices Report 2012. EU-15 end-user electricity prices including tax rose by an average of 7% last year to 18.93 eurocent/kWh (23.7 Scents/ kWh) compared with 2010, while there was a 13% increase year-on-year in end-user natural gas prices to 6.99 eurocent/kWh. Of the greatest hikes, a typical Finnish household paid 20% more for electricity in 2011 than in 2010, a Spanish household 15% more and a German household around 11% more.
