Gas boosts East African power sector

East Africa provides a perfect case study of the failings of the African power sector. Too little generating capacity, decades of under-investment, poor maintenance, piecemeal transmission and distribution systems and an over reliance on hydro characterize an industry that has largely failed to deliver electricity either to the masses or the regional economy. However, now, it appears that the various problems of the generation sector are at least being tackled on several fronts. Hopes of greatly improved power supplies have never been higher.
