Chinese coal output to hit 3.9 billion mt in 2015

China's coal mining capacity is expected to reach 4.1 billion mt/year by 2015, but coal output and demand will be kept at 3.9 billion mt/year, according to the five-year development plan for the coal industry released in March by the National Energy Administration. A government estimate made earlier in March put demand at 4.1 billion mt/yr in 2015. The new figure has been set in light of a planned annual GDP growth rate of 7% between 2011 and 2015, Wu Yin, vice director of NEA told a press conference held in Beijing. Coal is expected to provide about 70% of China's primary energy and will continue to be the main source of the country's primary energy for the foreseeable future, Wu said.
