Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline dealt terminal blow

A new agenda for the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline project is to be put together after the development consortium receives directions from the Russian and Greek governments, a spokesman for Russia's pipeline operator Transneft, a shareholder in the project, said in December. The statement followed Bulgaria's decision to quit the project, which is likely to end any chance of the pipeline progressing. The line was to have run from Burgas on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast to Alexandroupolis on the Greek Mediterranean coast, bypassing the Bosporus Strait.
