The energy world has for the last three or more years been consumed by the American shale gas revolution, which has morphed into a liquids revolution that has profoundly changed perceptions about US energy security and its international relations. This has overshadowed a revolution no less profound, but of a very different kind - the decarbonization of power generation in Europe in pursuit of sustainable non-hydrocarbon-based energy systems.
