Price no deterrent to Colombian coal plan

Colombia has in recent years steadily reinforced its position as one of the world's top half-dozen exporters of thermal coal. Low production costs, good coal transport infrastructure and the native bituminous coals' high energy/low sulfur content have combined to create a solid market for exports to the US, Europe and increasingly Asia. US electric power utilities, especially along the Atlantic seaboard, from NB Power in New Brunswick to Southern Company in Georgia and Jacksonville Electric in Florida have become big customers.
