Colombia's mining and energy ministry has lowered its coal production target to 94 million mt in 2013 from the previous 96 million mt goal, citing labor strife, government sanctions and delays to expansion projects. Government royalties and taxes from coal mining will fall to $653 million in 2013, down 23% from $847 million last year, according to vice minister Natalia Gutierrez Jaramillo, citing the steep decline in global coal prices in recent months.
