Brazil's HRT announced in May that it had found oil in the first of three wells offshore Namibia, but not in commercial quantities. HRT said the Wingat-1 showed small volumes of high-quality light oil at 38 to 42 degrees API, allowing it to identify two well-developed source rocks that confirm the potential of the Walvis Basin. A ministry of energy official said it proves the existence of oil in the country, which in recent years has attracted global oil industry attention, owing to the similiarities of its offshore basins with Brazil's Santos and Campos basins.
