Indian port coal stocks rise amid inland shortages

Indian demand for imported thermal coal remains muted as a result of weak industrial demand and despite severe coal shortages in various regions of northern and central India, which in September faced power shortages. According to a Central Electricity Authority official, state-run coal producer Coal India Ltd is unable to meet daily demand of around 1.5 million mt and is supplying only about 1.3 million mt/day, which is causing disruption to power supplies.
