摘要

After half a century behind closed doors, Myanmar has ventured back into the world of international petroleum, pinning its hopes on its offshore reserves of gas and, with a bit of luck, oil. Myanmar is, in fact, one of the world's oldest oil producers, having pumped its first barrel of crude in 1853. But from 1962, when the military took power, to 2011, exploration and production was limited and the country was subject to a wide range of international sanctions.
