Alaskan lawmakers approve state role in mega-LNG project

In a move that advances one of the largest gas transportation projects in US history, the Alaska legislature in April authorized the state to partner with producers BP, ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil and pipeline company TransCanada for a pipeline and LNG export project with a price tag of up to $65 billion. It would allow the state to take its royalty and tax revenue share of gas production "in kind," instead of cash, and to invest in 25% of the project — enough capacity for the state to ship its own share of gas production, state Natural Resources Commissioner Joe Balash said.
