Adani's Carmichael coal mine project clears two legal hurdles

Indian company Adani's Carmichael thermal coal project in Queensland, Australia, cleared two legal hurdles in June, owing to an amendment to a Native Title Act and the dismissal of a challenge to its port expansion plans. A moratorium was placed on the registration of all indigenous land use agreements in Australia earlier in the year, after the federal court in Western Australia ,on February 1, rejected a native title deal because some representatives did not sign off on it. The ruling threatened to halt new projects such as Adani's Carmichael, but in June the Australian Senate passed an amendment to the act which clears the way for the project.
