Spot energy prices in Italy, the UK and France surged briefly on a catalog of unforeseen gas outages December 12, but the actual impact on system operation was minimal, data analysis showed two days later. Nonetheless, the incidents are likely to renew debate over both Italy's dependence on imported gas and the UK's current lack of gas storage capacity.
