Enova Gets Funding Boost

There would be scope for increased activity in renewable energy, improved insulation of public buildings, district heating and the insulation of private homes, the ministry said.rnWhere increased output of renewable energy is concerned, Enova has recently been criticized for supporting wind parks not where they are most badly needed, but where grid infrastructure is already available, making projects cheaper.rnEinar Handlykken, head of green organization Zero, welcomed the extra allocation to Enova, but pointed out that in 2008 the company had used only a small part of what it already had available, granting funds to just two small wind energy projects, one in Jaeren and one in Sogn og Fjordane (PiE 543/20).rnAt the same time another state body, Statnett, had invested NKr2 billion to set up "two climate bombs -mobile gas-fired generating plants - which stand unused in mid-Norway, one at Tjeldbergodden and one at Aukra", Handlykken said.rnA spokesman for Enova said no decision had been taken on how to spend the extra allocation - "but we do know that we now have greater scope for reaching our targets [which include] 3 TWh of wind power and 4 TWh of district heating."
