The 313-MW Oldbury-2 Magnox reactor will continue operating for up to two more years, having won a reprieve from safety authorities from its anticipated retirement at the end of December, 2008.rnThe Nuclear Decommissioning Authority said December 18 that Oldbury-2 had been granted approval to continue operating for a further period, "likely to be around two years."rnThe NDA statement did not say whether the 313-MW Oldbury-1 reactor, which is shut and awaiting safety approvals for restart, would also get permission for an extended operating period. Oldbury communications officer Saranne Postans, however, said the unit was expected to run an additional 22 months after its planned restart in January.
