With €500 million to spend between 2007 and 2010, climate and energy funds are looking for worthy projects to back. The latest beneficiary is winner of a mobility competition between four regions and will be rewarded with €4.7 million funding for a pilot project to introduce electric vehicles in the western province of Vorarlberg. The fund's broader concept involves public transport and information technology in addition to private and commercial vehicles. First-year targets include 100 vehicles and 50 filling stations, these ideally to be supplied from wind or solar generation. Project management has been assigned to a subsidiary of regional utility Vorarlberger Kraftwerke and will have support from other regional organizations as well as the technical university in Vienna.
