Biomass exchange launched

Anglo-Dutch energy exchange APX-ENDEX has launched a biomass exchange in cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam. In a first phase the platform is to offer non-cleared standardized products with physical settlement arranged bilaterally by the counterparties, APX-ENDEX said November 3. Products include three month, three quarter and three calendar contracts. Phase two, scheduled to take place during 2012, is to include clearing services for wood pellets contracts. "In this phase, Port of Rotterdam will contribute its expertise with regards to shipping, storage and distribution of biomass products," the exchange said.
