Default electricity prices charged by Germany's retail suppliers vary by up to 35%, equivalent to €317/year for a household using 4,000 kWh/year, energy price portal Verivox reports. The average price for default tariffs, charged when consumers do not switch to cheaper offers on the market, is €1,036/year, the company said November 7. Consumers can compare 19,400 tariffs offered by over 1,000 electricity retailers on Verivox's portal. Around 45% of household consumers were still supplied under a default tariff in 2009, compared with 27% of household gas consumers, according to most recent BNA federal regulator data.
