H1 wind adds total 793 MW

Some 793 MW of new wind capacity was commissioned in Germany in the first half of 2011, 20% or 133 MW more than in the first half of 2010, wind association BWE reported July 27. The additions take German installed wind capacity to 27,981 MW. Offshore wind contributed an additional 25 MW during the January-to-June period, taking the offshore total to 210 MW. An increase of 1,800 MW is forecast for full year 2011 vs 1,500 MW last year. Looking ahead to 2012, the revised renewable energy act - passed by federal parliament at the end of June 2011 and taking effect in 2012 - "will at least allow continuity in development of onshore projects," said wind association president Hermann Albers. Furthermore, support for offshore wind had been improved.
