Mayak visit cancelled again

Swiss plans to inspect the controversial Mayak uranium reprocessing plant in Russia have again had to be cancelled, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy said November 7. The SFOE said that it had not been possible to complete preparations in collaboration with Rosatom for a mid-November visit.A visit planned for June 2011 had to be cancelled when the Russians said the Swiss delegation would be denied access on the grounds of military security. Swiss companies Alpiq and Axpo have long been supplied with fuel rods sourced from Mayak by Areva.
