Cogeneration levy to double

Germany's cogeneration levy is to increase from January 1, 2013 to €0.00126/kWh from €0.00064/kWh in 2012. The near-doubling of the charge will add up to €6.30 per year to the bill for a large household using 5,000 kWh/yr, according to cogeneration association BHKW Infozentrum in Rastatt. The levy supports power generation in combined heat and power plants and is included as a component of Germany electricity prices.
