Foix plant replacement approved

Spain's Industry Ministry has approved a plan by Endesa to replace the 520-MW standard gas-fired Foix power plant near Barcelona with a 500-MW gas-fired combined-cycle plant.The proposed plant, according to an October 31 note in Spain's state gazette, is to be made up of a 300-MW gas turbine and a 170-MW steam turbine. No investment estimate was provided for the project.The existing Foix plant, which began operating in 1979, is at Cubelles, south of Barcelona, and can operate with fuel oil whenever its normal natural gas feedstock is curtailed.
