HEPI settles after January hikes

The HEPI household electricity price index dipped 0.9 index points in March, with tariffs essentially stable on February levels after some sizeable hikes seen in January in the UK, Germany, Greece and Denmark, consultancy VaasaETT said March 19. The monthly index is based on pre-tax electricity prices (ie the cost of energy and distribution) offered to household users by competing suppliers across the EU-15's capital cities. There is a natural gas index as well. The weighted end user price indexes give the most up-to-date guide of overall retail price developments across Europe. Finnish consultancy VaasaETT produces the data in collaboration with Austrian regulator Energie-Control.
