Turkey's energy regulator, the EPDK has closed applications for new wind power projects after apparently being overwhelmed by the number of applicants. According to various reports, between 200 and 300 companies submitted applications for between 300 and 750 separate projects totalling between 20,000 -78,000 MW. The closest to an official statement on the precise size and value of the applications has come from outgoing EPDK chief, Yusuf Guany, who in interviews given to mark the end of his two-year term stated that the total value of the applications is $109 billion, and that the EPDK is planning to offer licenses for to up to 10,000 MW of wind capacity.rnThe exact number of applications and the total installed capacity being proposed is still unclear as the EPDK has yet to release a full list, and reports in the Turkish media have been partial and to some extent contradictory, with the majority of applicants not providing details of their applications. Part of the confusion appears to stem from the fact that many of the major holding companies have applied for licenses for projects using specially created subsidiaries for each project, which has led to differing reports on how manyrncompanies applied.
