Hungary approves MOL Law, EU investigates

Hungary's parliament approved a bill October 8 aimed at protecting oil and gas company MOL from hostile takeover by Austria's OMV. The law, which was passed in a rare show of solidarity between government and opposition, defines those energy companies in which the state had a "golden share" at the start of 2007 - including MOL, gas and power distribution companies, the state-owned power company MVM and the country's major power plants - as "strategically important companies".
