Power distributors post losses

Lithuanian state-owned power distributor RST's sales dropped by 1.7% year-on-year in the first nine months of this year from Litas 877.8 million to Litas 862.6 million (€254.4 to €250 million). It had a net loss of Litas 23.8 million (€7.77 million) in Q3, nearly half of its loss in the same period of 2008, of Litas 47.7 million (€13.8 million). The fall in sales was due to a general decline in electricity demand by 7.5% and by a reduction in electricity prices since July, Arvydas Zakalskis, finance director at RST, said in a company statement in late October.
