CEZ makes Prunerov II concessions

The Czech Ministry of Environment has revealed the capacity closures that power company CEZ will undertake as the price of winning environmental clearance to modernize its coal-fired Prunerov II plant in the north of the country. In a statement October 20, it said that the measures to be taken by CEZ went beyond its expectations.rnThe Czech environmental ministry cleared CEZ's plans to modernize the plant in April this year after a bitter fight, but only on condition that it cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants to compensate for the fact that it was not being forced to use the best available technology during the plant overhaul.rnThe ministry said CEZ has offered to take the 440-MW Prunerov 1 plant out of service by 2019 and from January 2016 to limit use of Prunerov ll's B21 unit to 1,500 hours a year.
