Ministry okays Prunerov II work

Czech electricity giant CEZ has won approval from the Ministry of Environment to go ahead with its plans to modernize its biggest coal-fired power plant in the country.rnThe ministry announced on April 29 that it would clear plans for three new 250-MW units at the Prunerov plant in the north-west of the country to replace three of the existing five 210-MW units.rnThe approval under European Union's environmental assessment procedures should draw a line under a long and highly controversial battle between the state-controlled power company and environmental groups during which one environment minister resigned in protest after being pushed into giving a final decision without winning fresh concessions from CEZ.
