Tymoshenko ruling hits EU-Ukraine relations

Ukraine may have damaged its relations with the European Union by handing down October 11 a controversial seven-year jail sentence to former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko for abuse of office in negotiating a 2009 natural gas deal with Russia. Both the EU and the United States say her jailing was politically motivated.
