UK to maintain Carbon Price Support at GBP18/mt in 2023-2024

The UK government will maintain an existing carbon tax of GBP18/mt CO2 equivalent on carbon emissions from electricity generation in the financial year 2023-2024, it said in its Autumn Budget and Spending Review Oct. 27. The UK had originally applied the Carbon Price Support on CO2 emissions in the UK in 2013 because European carbon prices at the time were seen as too low to drive a significant shift from coal to cleaner fuels in the UK.
