Germany adds 4.35 GW new solar, onshore wind in January-July: BNetzA

Germany added 4.35 GW of solar and wind capacity in the first seven months 2021, of which 577 MW were registered in July, regulator BNetzA said Aug. 31. Solar additions of 435 MW in July saw the sector continue to grow at its fastest rate since 2012. Total German solar capacity now exceeds 56 GW. Solar produced a record 21 TWh during the summer months of June, July and August, data by Fraunhofer ISE showed. Wind continues to lag behind with only 142 MW registered in July. Sector association BWE predicts 2021 additions in a range of 2.2 GW to 2.4 GW, well below a government target of 4 GW.
