Closure approved for Spain’s 1.2-GW Carboneras coal plant

The planned closure of Spain’s Carboneras coal-fired power station is astep closer after a ruling by the country’s Ecological Transition Ministryin June 14’s state gazette.The dismantling of the plant’s two units (577 MW and 582 MW) canproceed and will not require an environmental impact assessment,according to the Boletin Oficial del Estado.The ruling made no mention of a request by the country’s CNMCregulator in May to keep one of the units in operation to ensuresecurity of supply in the region.
