Dutch coal plant emission cap bill heads for late June plenary

The Dutch government is hoping a short delay to parliamentary scrutiny of its proposed coal plant CO_2 emission cap bill will not unduly impact adoption of the instrument later this year. The economics committee of the Netherlands’ upper house of parliament has just delayed its report on the draft legislation to June 8. Originally scheduled to report on June 1, the committee has pushed this back a week with the aim of a discussion in plenary on June 29. The delay, however, is not expected to have an impact on adoption of the draft legislation, which caps carbon emissions from Dutch coalfired power stations at 35% of full load, pro rata for the remainder of this year, and then in full for the following three years.
