A 97 MW hydro plant at Romanche-Gavet in the French Alps has been officially inaugurated after a 10-year construction period, operator EDF said Oct. 9.EDF CEO Jean-Bernard Levy and state secretary for rural development Joel Giraud opened the Eur400 million ($470 million) project in the Isere region between Grenoble and Alpe d'Huez. The plant increases by 40% power output of previous assets along the same stretch of the La Romanche river, EDF said, with a 10-km long underground conduit and generator inside the mountain replacing six old powerhouse generators and five dams.
