Spain's Ence announces 90 MW of new biomass plans ahead of auctions

Spain's Ence plans to build 90 MW of new biomass-fired generation capacity alongside 240 MW of solar capacity as it anticipates an impending round of renewable auctions in the country. The two biomass projects will use forest-sourced or agricultural by-product fuel and, like the solar projects, already have connection contracts from grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE). The first, a 40 MW site at El Ejido, Almeria, has used the COVID-19 slowdown to work on the engineering and logistics and is standing by for confirmation of a new round of auctions, approved into law in June, which the government confirmed will be separated by technology type. In Cordoba, meanwhile, the company is planning a 50 MW site which is due to request its environmental approval in the next weeks, Ence said.
