7Seas Med seeks 250 MW Italian floating wind concession off Sicilian coast

Developer 7Seas Med Srl has submitted a request for a 30-year concession to build a 250 MW floating wind farm off the west coast of Sicily, it said July 3. 7Seas aims to site 25 x 10 MW horizontal axis turbines and a transformer platform 37 km off the coast of Sicily's Marsala municipality, 32 km from the island of Marettimo and 34.5 km from the island of Favignana. The concession sought covers a sea area of 131 sq km. The request was submitted to the Trapani harbor office of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. In project documentation 7Seas noted that, of Italy's 2020 offshore wind target of 680 MW, only the 30 MW Taranto project off Puglia was in construction. More recently the government had set targets of 300 MW offshore wind by 2025 and 900 MW by 2030.
