Siemens to supply EuroAsia converter stations

EuroAsia Interconnector Ltd has selected Siemens as preferred bidder to supply three high voltage direct current converter stations for the subsea power cabling project linking Israel, Cyprus and Crete (Greece). The Eur3.5 billion ($3.86 billion), 2 GW interconnector is being co-financed by the EU as a Project of Common Interest but has been subject to years of development delays. The promoter said it continued to work towards interconnection between Israel, Cyprus and Cyprus and Crete by December 2023. Both are designated European Projects of Common Interest. In November 2019 EuroAsia said binding tenders had been received in the Eur710 million tender for three HVDC converter stations. Then on January 15 EuroAsia called for cabling bids for the 1 GW first phase of the project. A shortlist of candidates was due to be published late February, but no announcement has been made by the developer.
