The Dutch Court of Audits called May 15 for more transparency in expenditures on renewables via the SDE+ system. The government was “systematically overestimating the expenditure on the production of renewables”, with the result that €2.5 billion has remained unused in the last five years, it said. That was almost a third of the €7.7 billion available in the budget over the period. The court said government should be able to forecast more accurately even though it was hard to know exactly how many awarded projects would finally proceed. Indeed it said the ministry of economic affairs was getting worse at forecasting its real needs rather than better. The issue was important because the figures affect the calculations on the sustainable energy levy on consumers and business’s power bills that finance the SDE+, the court said.
