AWEA bows to NERC, agrees on tougher low-voltage ride-through for wind plants

The American Wind Energy Assn. has acceded to the North American Electric Reliability Council's position that all wind generators and turbine manufacturers should adopt new technology enabling them to stay on line when voltage drops to low levels during system disruptions. The two jointly recommended to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last week how it should handle the previously contentious issue of low-voltage ride-through capability in FERC's final rule on large generator interconnection, which was issued June 2.
