Northwestern buys out remaining portion of 222-MW lease at Colstrip coal-fired plant

Northwestern has bought out a lease on a non-regulated plant near Billings, Montana. Separately, it is seeking proposals for renewables to serve its South Dakota customers. Northwestern paid $133.4 million, or $933/kW, to acquire 143 MW that it leases in the 740-MW Colstrip Unit 4 coal-fired plant. The interest was purchased from General Electric Capital subsidiary SGE.
