Commonwealth Edison and Juice Energy were in negotiations late last week over the latter's impending exit from Illinois' competitive electric market after it ran out of financial "juice" when Lehman Brothers went bankrupt in September. New York-based Juice also is winding down its supply business in New York and Texas, the other states where the competitive electric supplier operated. "Lehman Brothers was our credit facility," said Patty Linehan, a Juice spokeswoman. "The October meter reads will be our last," she said, confirming Juice is surrendering its competitive supplier licenses in all three states. Juice officials did not disclose the number of customers the company currently serves or indicate what will happen to them once it halts operations. Under an "Electricity is revolutionary again" heading on its web site earlier this year, Juice touted a new two-year deal to supply the Hotel Roger Williams of New York City with 100% of its electricity needs. The contract "manages the HRW's exposure to the wind swings in the price of electricity," Juice said at the time. Next came wild swings, mostly downward, in US credit markets.
