Hydro-Quebec picks 15 wind farms, 2,004 MW; cost is 'highly competitive' for wind power

Hydro-Quebec last week chose 15 wind farms, totaling 2,004 MW, to be developed in Quebec between 2011 and 2015 as the result of a 2005 tender. Thierry Vandal, president and CEO of Hydro-Quebec said the projects ensure "a supply of renewable energy at a highly competitive cost for wind power." The average price is C10.5 cents/kWh (US10.36 cents/kWh). Of that, 8.7 cents/kWh (US8.6 cents/kWh) applies to the wind energy, 1.3cents/kWh (US1.28 cents/kWh) transmission, and an estimated 0.5cents/kWh (US0.49 cents/kWh) for balancing service provided by Hydro-Quebec Production.
