Gas Storage Facility Saves Time, Money While Maximizing Safety

The Unionville Compressor Station of Reliant Energy Pipeline Services receives raw gas from fields in eastern Texas and northern Louisiana. After cleanup, compression and storage, the gas is distributed to the end- users. The gas is primarily destined for St. Louis and its sur- rounding communities. Reliant Energy Pipeline Services manages some of the nation's largest pipeline networks, operating approximately 8,200 miles of pipeline and moving more than 1 Tcf of gas per year. The Unionville facility stores approximately 30.2 Bcf of "working" gas. The raw gas is received at 500 psi before it is compressed at 4,000 psi for storage. It is decompressed back to the 500 psi level prior to transmission to the transfer stations along its journey to its final destination.
