Leading pipeline transportation com-panics are currently controlling lost and unaccounted for gas (L&U) at an average rate of .25% of custody receipts, or less. To achieve this low percentage, companies have invested in measurement control practices with the investments being repaid through reductions in L&U. Lower L&U ratios mean less gas needs to be retained on transport and customers can be offered increased discounts as a means of competing.
